1. Accounts & Eligibility

You must be at least 16 years of age to create an account. By registering, you represent that you meet this requirement and that the information you provide is accurate and complete.

You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activities under your account. You agree to notify us immediately of any unauthorized access.

Accounts may be created using email/password or third-party OAuth providers (Google, Apple). You may maintain only one account per person.

2. Petitions & Campaigns

iPetition allows you to create, manage, and promote petitions and campaigns. When you create a petition, you represent that:

  • The information in the petition is truthful and accurate to the best of your knowledge.
  • You have a legitimate interest in the cause you are advocating for.
  • The petition does not violate any applicable law or these Terms.

Campaigns may follow one of three models: simple signature collection, milestone-based campaigns with progressive goals, or letter-writing campaigns directed at decision makers.

Petitions that are inactive for 18 months may be automatically archived. You may amend an active petition's title or description; all existing signers will be notified and asked to reconfirm their signatures.

3. Signatures & Signing

When you sign a petition, you affirm that you are expressing your genuine support for the stated cause. Each person may sign a petition only once.

You may choose to sign publicly or anonymously. Anonymous signatures are counted toward the total but your identity is not displayed publicly. You may withdraw your signature at any time.

Signatures carry different trust weights based on your verification tier. Higher verification levels result in greater trust weight for your signature.

Fraudulent or automated signing (bots, duplicate accounts, coordinated inauthentic behavior) is strictly prohibited and will result in immediate account termination.

4. Credits & Payments

iPetition uses a credit-based economy. Credits are purchased in packs and used for petition promotion, delivery to decision makers, and other premium features.

  • Geo-locking: Credits purchased in a country can only be used for petitions targeting that country.
  • Regional pricing: Credit prices are adjusted based on purchasing power parity across three pricing tiers.
  • Non-refundable: Credits are generally non-refundable once purchased, except as required by applicable consumer protection law.

Payments are processed via Stripe (web) or Apple/Google In-App Purchase (mobile). By making a purchase, you agree to the applicable payment processor's terms.

5. Verification System

iPetition offers a three-tier verification system to build trust:

  • Tier 1 (Email): Basic email address verification.
  • Tier 2 (Phone): Phone number verification via SMS. Your signatures carry 2x trust weight.
  • Tier 3 (ID): Government-issued ID verification. Your signatures carry 5x trust weight and display a Gold Verified badge.

Verification is voluntary and does not gate access to core features. All users, regardless of verification tier, may sign and create petitions.

Verification data is processed securely and stored in accordance with our Privacy Policy. ID documents are used solely for verification purposes and are not shared with third parties.

6. Fundraising

Petition creators may enable optional fundraising alongside signature collection. By enabling fundraising, you agree that:

  • A platform fee of 5% plus payment processing fees will be deducted from donations.
  • You will use funds for the stated purpose described in your campaign.
  • Financial transparency is mandatory — donors can see how funds are allocated.
  • Payouts are processed via Stripe Express to verified bank accounts.

Donors may contribute publicly, anonymously, or privately. Donations are generally non-refundable unless the campaign is found to be fraudulent, in which case refunds will be processed.

7. User Content

You retain ownership of the content you create on iPetition, including petition text, "Why I Signed" stories, comments, and uploaded media. By posting content, you grant iPetition a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to display, distribute, and promote your content in connection with the Service.

You represent that you have the right to post any content you submit and that it does not infringe on the rights of any third party, including intellectual property rights, privacy rights, or publicity rights.

iPetition does not endorse any user-generated content and is not responsible for the accuracy, completeness, or legality of petitions, comments, or other submissions.

8. Decision Makers

iPetition maintains a database of public officials, elected representatives, and institutional decision makers. This information is sourced from public records.

Petition delivery to decision makers is a paid service using platform credits. When a petition is delivered, the decision maker receives the petition content and signature count but not individual signer identities (unless signers have opted to share their information).

Decision makers may respond to petitions through a verified response portal. Response tracking and accountability scoring are based on publicly available actions and statements.

9. Groups & Community

Users may create and join groups organized around shared causes, ideologies, geographic areas, or interests. Group creators are responsible for moderating their group's content and ensuring compliance with these Terms.

Organizations may create verified organizational accounts with team management features, including member roles (owner, admin, moderator, editor, analyst) and subscription-based premium features.

10. AI-Powered Features

iPetition uses artificial intelligence to enhance the platform experience, including:

  • Campaign strength scoring and improvement suggestions.
  • Automatic tag generation for petition discovery.
  • Duplicate petition detection to consolidate similar campaigns.
  • Content moderation assistance.
  • Personalized share message generation.

AI features are advisory in nature. Campaign strength scores, suggestions, and duplicate detection are tools to assist you — final decisions always remain with the user. AI-generated content may not always be accurate or appropriate, and you are responsible for reviewing and editing any AI-assisted output.

11. Prohibited Conduct

You agree not to use the Service to:

  • Create fraudulent, misleading, or deceptive petitions.
  • Use bots, scripts, or automated means to generate signatures.
  • Impersonate another person or entity.
  • Harass, threaten, or intimidate other users or decision makers.
  • Post content that is illegal, defamatory, obscene, or promotes violence.
  • Misuse the fundraising feature by soliciting donations under false pretenses.
  • Circumvent geographic restrictions on credits or signatures.
  • Attempt to manipulate signature counts, trust scores, or trending algorithms.
  • Interfere with or disrupt the Service or its infrastructure.
  • Violate any applicable local, national, or international law.

12. Content Moderation

iPetition employs a combination of AI-assisted and human review for content moderation. Users may report petitions, comments, or other content that violates these Terms.

If your content is flagged or removed, you may submit an appeal through the platform. Appeals are reviewed by our moderation team, and decisions are communicated within a reasonable timeframe.

We reserve the right to remove content, suspend accounts, or take other appropriate action to enforce these Terms and protect the community.

13. Intellectual Property

The iPetition platform, including its design, code, logos, and trademarks, is owned by or licensed to iPetition and is protected by intellectual property laws. You may not copy, modify, distribute, or reverse engineer any part of the Service without our express permission.

If you believe that content on the Service infringes your intellectual property rights, please contact us at support@ipetition.com with a detailed description of the alleged infringement.

14. Privacy & Data

Your privacy is important to us. Our use of your personal data is governed by our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated into these Terms by reference.

You have the right to:

  • Access: Request a copy of your personal data.
  • Erasure: Request deletion of your account and associated data, subject to a 30-day grace period.
  • Portability: Export your data in a machine-readable format.

Deletion requests can be submitted through the Privacy & Data section in your account settings. Archived petition data may be retained in anonymized form for historical and statistical purposes.

15. Termination

You may delete your account at any time through the account settings. Upon deletion, your personal data will be removed in accordance with our Privacy Policy, subject to legal retention requirements.

We may suspend or terminate your account if you violate these Terms, engage in prohibited conduct, or if required by law. In cases of termination for cause, any remaining credits are forfeited.

16. Disclaimers & Limitation of Liability

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. WE DO NOT GUARANTEE THAT PETITIONS WILL ACHIEVE THEIR STATED GOALS OR THAT DECISION MAKERS WILL RESPOND.

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, IPETITION SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE.

iPetition is a platform for civic engagement and does not provide legal, financial, or political advice. Users are solely responsible for the content of their petitions and campaigns.

17. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we make material changes, we will notify you via email or a prominent notice on the Service at least 30 days before the changes take effect.

Your continued use of the Service after changes become effective constitutes your acceptance of the revised Terms.
